Based on its size and price tag, the Deco X20 was a surprisingly strong performer with the ability to extend a Wi-Fi network into unreached parts of a home. Using my 100-year-old home and Ixia’s IxChariot networking benchmark, I created a busy network. The Deco X20 didn’t start out strongly with 522.1Mbps of throughput to the test system 15-feet from the host router. That’s well behind other Wi-Fi 6 mesh kits, like the Netgear Orbi RBK852 (at 883.6Mbps), the SURFboard mAX Pro (820.3Mbps) or the Asus ZenWiFi AX (701.0Mbps). So having turned off WiFi for my main firewall router and having inserted a 3-node DECO X20 v4 AP mode system -- I am rebooting network infrastructure about every 4-5 days and sometimes in as little as 6 hours. All WAN/LAN ports will operate as either WAN or LAN ports. Only one port can serve as a WAN port at a time.

No wall mount. This is very frustrating. However, they have done it strategically because you get a better range if you place it on a table as the walls absorb radio frequency. But still so many people, like me, have no option other than to wall mount the device. Setting up the Deco system is largely very simple. Like the Linksys Velop, it’s all done via an app on your phone, with both Android and iPhone supported. You plug in each node in turn and the app will automatically connect to them via Bluetooth, so it can configure it and connect it to the overall system. However, it falls into a slightly awkward middle-ground between the cheaper but faster and easier to setup BT Whole Home, and more expensive but even faster and more capable alternatives such as the Netgear Orbi and Linksys Velop. It’s not a bad option but as a latecomer to the mesh shin-dig, it hasn’t brought a good enough party favour to out-do the other guests.

The TP-Link Deco M5 is incredibly easy to set up, and the coverage it provides from the three units is a genuine revelation. Rychlost Wi-Fi 1 900 Mb/s –sledujte své oblíbené seriály v rozlišení 4K s kombinovanou rychlostí až 1 900 Mb/s (600 Mb/s v pásmu 2,4 GHz a 1 300 Mb/s v pásmu 5 GHz ) s technologií 3×3 MU-MIMO. †‡ But what is a mesh router and what can it do for you? For the full low-down head to our dedicated mesh router explainer, but the short version is that instead of a single, big router, you use a number of less powerful access points/nodes spread around your home to distribute the Wi-Fi workload. Plně gigabitový ethernet –3 gigabitové ethernetové porty WAN/LAN poskytují spolehlivý přístup k internetu s vysokou rychlostí. △ No online mode (you can’t login to your deco away from home and can be only accessed if you are connected to same wifi) – Fixed in latest update

To test the performance of the Deco, I initially setup just a single node and tested its maximum Wi-Fi speeds when standing just 2m away from it. This provides a good baseline indication of how it compares to other normal routers. And, it compares reasonably well. Individually these would be enough to pique our interest, but together they make for a great combo that is only slightly let down by the top-line throughput. It claims to use high speed CPU and artificial intelligence for better connectivity. I can feel it with seamless connectivity. Its ability to send a strong signal through a wall 20 feet from the router was acceptable at 556.5Mbps available on the far side of the wall. That’s 40 percent off the pace set by the Orbi RBK852 (782.9Mbps). This trend held when we set the test system up a floor above the host router and the Deco X20 yielded 320.5Mbps of throughput versus the Orbi RBK852’s 670.1Mbps. The three units are attractively designed with a hint of minimalism, with the aforementioned LED being joined by a pair of Ethernet ports on the read of the unit (if a cylinder really has a rear), and a USB Type-C port used as a power connector off to one side. There are no obvious holes for wall mounting, but the design is such that you really won’t mind having them in plain sight. They’re very much like the Google WiFi mesh system in that respect.

Product Reviews

The fact that this is AC1300 kit means that it simply can’t compete with the likes of the Orbi, but then they are more expensive. You really do get what you pay for in that respect. For the most part they’ll use either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band to maintain a connection, which we found worked well enough. We liked Strong & stable connectivity. I must say, one router was enough to give internet access on one floor of 180 sq yards. I installed the router in the center. With 300 Mbps internet connection, I was getting atleast 200 Mbps speed in all rooms. In the most distant spots like balconies, I was getting 50Mbps stable speed with no lagging. It is reasonable for a single router giving internet to a large space. If you want a better speed, just mesh it with another Deco. Also remember that a strong router doesn’t always offer a long range. It also depends upon the WiFi module on your device as both devices need to send data to each other. Both the devices create an ecliptic lobe and the best speed is received where the both lobes intersect. There are a number of different Tp-Link mesh devices under the name Deco ranging from ₹2500 per unit to ₹50,000 per unit. The good news is, all Decos can be meshed together as per your requirement. In contrast, the Orbi boasts AC3000 Wi-Fi speeds, the BT Whole Home has AC2500 and the Velop has AC2200. As such, for raw speed the Deco is someway behind its rivals, though by the very nature of distrubuted Wi-Fi systems, this isn’t always noticeable in conventional tests.

These figures are the giveaway as to why the Deco is that much cheaper than most of its rivals. Combine the 400Mbps and 867Mbps and you have a total throughput for the Wi-Fi on each node of 1267Mbps, which is known as AC1300-class Wi-Fi. You start off with one node, connected either to your router or directly to your broadband modem – like most third-party routers, the nodes don’t include a modem. This you’ll do via the single included Ethernet cable; the inclusion of at least one extra cable for connecting other devices would have been useful.

Indeed, on the Deco M5 M5 units there’s a single LED at the centre of the unit that lets you know everything you need to about its current status: red means there’s a problem, orange and blue only appear when it’s being set up and green indicates that everything is working as intended. Robustní rodičovská kontrola – omezte čas strávený na internetu a zablokujte nevhodné webové stránky na základě jedinečných profilů, které lze vytvořit pro každého člena rodiny. Going from a single router with a smattering of powerline gear to the Deco M5 was a revelation. The network may not be super fast, but it does work, and affords total house coverage seamlessly - with connected devices jumping between the various Deco M5 unitss as needed. On our same-floor testing, where we set up the satellite 40-feet from the host router and the test station another 50-feet away, the Deco X20’s prospects improved with 65.5Mbps available. That might not sound like much in view of the Asus ZenWiFi AX’s 125.8Mbps performance, but it beat the Netgear Orbi RBK852 (39.1Mbps).You do get more information from the app that runs on your smartphone, but even here it’s generally broad strokes stuff to do with the devices that are connected, and the throughput they are enjoying. It’s simplistic in a way that your average joe can get it up and running and doesn’t require that they fancy themselves as a would-be networking engineer on the side. If you want serious performance, then you can connect your the units together using Ethernet, and it’ll use the best connection possible when assessing the networking infrastructure, although this does kind of defeat the point of their flexibility.
