I'm a busy catholic benedictine mother of a three year old boy so time is of the essence when trying to fit Offices into my day. The Community also uses a quarterly Prayer Guide (contact Ellen or Charlotte in the Community Office). The bonus for me [other than the beauty of its prayers] is that timewise it's a lot more user friendly for someone with a busy schedule [that'll be most of us then ;o)]. Many have found that the use of the CD whilst travelling to or from work by car can be very helpful. Both volumes of Celtic Daily Prayer are a complex mixture of writing original to Northumbria Community, along with some third party and out-of-copyright material, and so we thought it would help to offer some guidelines to simplify the process of seeking permission to use the material they contain. Its spirituality and the rhythm of its Celtic Daily Prayer have been a significant influence on many European Baptists, particularly through the Community’s annual visits at the International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) when it was based in Prague, and subsequently in the devotional life of the IBTS Centre in Amsterdam. As a result, they are very precious to us and we ask that anyone making use of them does so with respect.

The digital version also includes the Scripture inline with the text, AND music audio for each of the sung liturgies. In the meantime, I'm tempted to take them out and laminate them for daily use, saving the rest of the book for their fascinating, inspiring readings. Thoughts, prayers and readings for every day of the year, both morning and evening, with Celtic themes and inspiration, from the Northumbria Community. As a companion for the journey, this book offers meditations for the events of life, and liturgies for its seasons. Morning, Midday or Evening Prayer, and the Complines (‘end of the day’ prayers) can be accessed from the Pray the Daily Office links at the top of this page or in paper form using the Celtic Daily Prayer Book 1: The Journey Begins and Celtic Daily Prayer Book 2: Farther Up and Farther In. As well as the Daily Office, there are four original Communion services, along with liturgies and prayers that have emerged out of real-life experiences of seeking God in many differing contexts throughout the world. I am tempted to dissect a copy and scan it into several PDF files to make it more manageable for daily travel ~ (maybe on a monthly or seasonal basis) - Unfortunately it is not offered in any e-formats of PDF or Kindle versions to my knowlege.

This compilation of said and sung liturgies makes the Northumbria Community's 'Daily Office available to a wide audience. If you are simply reading aloud from the books in a public context, such as a Church service, then no permission is needed unless a recording is being taken that will be broadcast or sold. Based in Northumberland, Northern England, the community connects people dispersed across the globe. We are currently offering the option to purchase our Daily Office Cards, and the sheet music for May the Peace of the Lord Christ go with you, as PDF downloads. After the scripture readings and meditations, there is an opportunity to pray whatever is on your mind and heart, offering to God the concerns of the day, your personal needs and prayers for other people.

Some find it helpful to make a point of saying it whilst moving around (whilst preparing lunch for instance) as a reminder to pray as we work and work as we pray. The Northumbria Community is a dispersed network of people, hugely diverse, from different backgrounds, streams and edges of the Christian faith, united in their desire to embrace and express an ongoing exploration into a new way for living.
