When David Child, a major client of a corrupt New York law firm, is arrested for murder, the FBI ask con-artist-turned-lawyer Eddie Flynn to secure Child as his client and force him to testify against the firm. A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Cavanagh moved to Dublin at the age of eighteen where he ended up studying law by accident.

Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh - Ramblings Review – Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh - Ramblings

The only problem is that the reporter is being protected by a guy named John Milton—perhaps the one man on the planet that is deadlier than him. I can only surmised that recruitment wasn’t attempted because it was obvious that she was in the middle of her own end game and had no interest in anyone else’s agenda, rather than because she was unbalanced. An insightful look at the realities of motherhood and work, and competitive parenting, this is gratifyingly sinister. Fifty Fifty is hugely entertaining, there's plenty of drama, jeopardy and tension and Cavanagh directs his wry humour at some of the absurdities of the law.I think what makes the book so gripping is the continual red herrings thrown in, which mimics how we anticipate a high profile legal case to go. combines electric plotting with vivid evocations of the impact of emotionally abusive parenting and sexual harassment at work. Everything that Joshua Kane has been doing throughout his entire life has been aimed towards this very moment. As she digs into work – she’s defending a teacher accused of grooming a female pupil – she starts to realise their new home might not be as safe as she’d hoped. It was hard to side with either party during the case, since I felt both lawyers were strong, likable characters that offered a huge deal to the plot - as did their side kicks.

Fifty-Fifty By Steve Cavanagh |The Works

Leonard Howell's biggest fear has become his reality, following the abduction of his lovely daughter Caroline. Thriller novels, as I've said before, tend to be less about the intricate language and more focused on engaging characters and fast-paced plots. However, as he steps back into his old life, Flynn realizes that the rules of game have changed — and that he is being played. When a young woman, Skylar Edwards, is found murdered in Buckstown, Alabama, a corrupt sheriff arrests the last person to see her alive, Andy Dubois.

Fifty-Fifty: The Number One Ebook Bestseller, Sunday Times

Steve Cavanagh is an Irish international award-winning and bestselling author of mystery, thriller and crime novels. You can travel into the past to discover great characters like Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Maigret and others; journey around the world to other countries and meet Aussie Phryne Fisher, Norwegian Harry Hole and so many others; just relax on your couch and experience the wonders of Hercule Poirot, Lord Peter Wimsey, etc; or hard-boiled, tired gumshoes like Travis McGee and Kinsey Milhone. As a Brit whose thrillers are set in America he's inevitably compared to Lee child, but Cavanagh's books combine whodunnits with courtroom contests, and are r eminiscent of Agatha Christie in their penchant for audacious narrative trickery. Consenting to these technologies will allow us to process data such as browsing behaviour or unique IDs on this site. This set up works very well until two thirds in, when you just want the book to end so you can congratulate yourself or commiserate on being astute or oblivious to who did it. Steve Cavanagh gives the reader a deliciously twisted woman who will stop at nothing to come out on top.

Forced by circumstances to get involved in the trial, Eddie must win an unthinkable murder case in forty-eight hours. As I said, I really struggled to put this one down due to the sheer investment I felt in the case - it was as if I was on the jury myself. FIFTY FIFTY was a Richard and Judy Book club choice, and the BBC Between The Covers book club choice. In essence the plot follows the murder case as it progresses and the lawyers both fight to prove their clients innocence, with all of the twists and turns that are thrown their way. They are both on trial for murder; Eddie is working for Sofia, and sets to work to prove her innocence. How very convenient that the ex mayor of NYC is killed a few days before the meeting with his lawyer to change his will. I say 'most' as there are also some chapters which are written from the killer's view, however we are unaware as to which sister this is until the very end.
