I was way too young to play, but I distinctly remember the quiet back room filled with lace-covered gaming tables, upon which sat a perfect pack of playing cards, an ashtray (this was the 70s after all! These outlets were only found in Mainline train stations such as Euston, Kings Cross, Waterloo, Glasgow etc. Perfect for encouraging table manners, these probably saw kids lobbing them across the room before eating them! I worked in Charing Cross CJ's before the unit opened and had many great times with the lads n lasses there. The Ice Breaker bar had a shiny, light blue wrapper and a white lightning-type zig zag across the front.

Its light flickered briefly in the late 70s into the early 80s, but clearly the combination of soft coconut fondant with pieces of cherry, all wrapped in thick milk chocolate, was an acquired taste, and the bar soon disappeared from our shelves, never to be seen again. Cadbury’s white chocolate answer to the Dairy Milk was creamier and arguably tastier than Nestle’s finest, but the power of the Milkybar Kid proved to be too strong. As a kid who became a teenager by the end of the decade, this was my time to enjoy a childhood of chocolate. A combination of coconut, cherries and caramel covered in milk chocolate, the bar will be relaunched as a test run backed by a Hawaiian-themed advertising campaign, with the slogan 'Chill out at the Cabana'. Remember when Caramac and KitKat combined to produce a classic four-finger KitKat wafer smothered in caramel, in 2005?

They were supposed to look like characters from Masters of the Universe, but instead they just looked like floppy, squidgy, brightly coloured worms. Chic Bubble Gum came in a red wrapper around 1982 or so and was sold alongside Anglo Bubblys for a penny each.

Modern comedians of a certain age still make fun of those other entertainers who ask “whatever happened to Spangles? The Mars Delight, perceived as a lighter version of the traditional Mars Bar, spent four years on the shelves but was discontinued in 2008. The Trio was a toffee flavoured biscuit bar first produced by Jacob's and proved to be a popular snack in the 1980s, however Jacob's stopped producing the bars, which came in a red wrapper, in 2003. These were the original minty chocolates that took the UK by storm when they dropped on our supermarket shelves in 2002. Long before the Yorkie controversially declared itself off-limits to women, the Texan was the considered the ultimate in manly confectionary.

A box of Terry’s Neapolitans, elegantly-wrapped miniature bricks of really great-tasting milk and dark chocolate flavoured with orange, coffee or mocha always sent me into incredibly happy memories of childhood Christmases in Dewsbury when, on one day of the holiday (probably Boxing Day, but I can’t be sure) our next-door-neighbours would hold a whist drive. Chelsea Whoppers were a kind of chocolate sweet or, as was common in the 1970's, 'chocolate flavoured' (like Wagon Wheels). There might not have been enough among the chocolate, raisins and soft caramel to count as your five-a-day. The Cabana was a milk chocolate bar found inside a blue wrapper where the inside of the sweet treat was filled with a coconut and caramel filling and chunks of cherry.

They were peppermint striped for a double hit of freshness and the best part was, they never left your breath smelling grim like some other treats on this list . The Taz bar was released in 1994 and remained on shelves for a few years but has since been outlived by the Freddo. Please tick if you would like to receive news, offers and information from our trusted and carefully selected partners that we think you might like. Combining caramel and chocolate with cherries and coconut, Rowntree’s Cabana was one of the more exotic chocolate bars to launch in the 80s. Or why not subscribe to my weekly newsletter with new recipes and baking tips straight to your mailbox. One wonders why, when people eulogise so much about them, the companies saw fit to cease production on some of these much-loved treats. Cabana is a lively brand and our promotions will reflect this sense of fun - we're confident the bar can become the taste of the summer'. The Wispa brand’s answer to the Aero Mint was discontinued in 2003 alongside the equally tasty caramel and biscuit Bite. I let this settle before melting my last batch of choc (and burning myself a little 🙁 ) to form the top/bottom of the bar. This Cadbury’s bar was a mix of chocolate, nougat and caramel It didn’t survive intact once I’d finished with a bar – but the public’s taste must have been altogether more discerning because as a brand Atzec didn’t make it to the end of the decade.
