Description

Pupils will be challenged to follow instructions to make an insect home from an empty plastic bottle, foam sheets, old tights, grass, leaves and sticks in our National Geographic Kids’ primary resource sheet. Physical challenges develop coordination and balance skills, whilst providing the perfect environment for interactive social play. Kids who love creepy critters can turn their fascination with insects into a hobby with the Bug Playground. I have experimented with a range of media and technologies to create images and objects, using my understanding of their properties.

Smartlab, Bug Playground, Inspect Inspector Lab, Ages 7+

Activity: Ask pupils to bring in an empty plastic bottle to class and make their own bug hotel for their garden. A wooden caddy containing 3 x wooden handled garden tools and gardening accessory set, including gardening gloves. Depending on the size of your class, each child or pairing can be allocated their own 'Bug Pod' giving them full responsibility for creating the perfect home for mini-beasts and creepy crawlies. Taking a closer look at what is inside their pod, children will begin to identify and observe the insects inside without disturbing them or spilling what is inside their pod.Browse through our amazing collection of role play equipment, and don't forget that we can create bespoke play equipment just for you! For the budding entomologist (bug expert) in your house, Smart Lab is proud to present the Bug Playground. Deposit your crickets, pill bugs, ants, ladybugs, or other creepy-crawlies in the Bug Playground and observe their behavior. Bug expert, David George Gordon, leads the way in the illustrated color booklet filled with facts and activities.

I can use my knowledge of the interactions and energy flow between plants and animals in ecosystems, food chains and webs. Did you know that nearly two thousand sorts of British invertebrates require dead wood and use it many different ways. This primary resource gives children an opportunity to make a bug hotel for their garden — a great way to encourage pupils to get creative and explore the world around them. Encourage your children to roll up their sleeves, get stuck in, and let their curiosity take the lead with lessons in science, gardening, and creativity. The children must work in pairs to fill their podswith recoursesthey both feel will attract a host of invertebrates. Pop one of the 5 double-sided cards in the viewer and look through the viewing space, matching what you see to the image on the card. Each bottle must be cleaned carefully with their label removed and mouth cut off to ensure children can fill their bottles with the correct resources for mini-beast habitat. Grow your own herbs, salad and vegetables in a greenhouse you construct using the components in the set. Our Bug Hotel contains a large planting area on the roof to createa pollinator friendly environment for bees and other insects.

Consenting to these technologies will allow us to process data such as browsing behaviour or unique IDs on this site. The booklet also includes helpful tips on which bugs make well-behaved pals and which feisty and pesty bugs to avoid collecting, plus suggestions for keeping your bugs comfortable, well-fed, and happy—and even how to deal with fights. Bags, coats, magnifying glasses, pencils… children can hang equipment up before heading to inspect their 'Bug Pods'. Encouragethe children towander over to a natural area of the playground to fill their pods with different medium of bark, twigs, leaves, rock, stones, hollow cane and grass; some dry and some damp to create the perfect home for creepy crawlies. Having worked with a number of commercial businesses, such as hotels, pubs and parks, we have the experience, knowledge, and skills to create unique solutions with our extensive range of commercial playground equipment.

Pupils should use the local environment throughout the year to raise and answer questions that help them to identify and study plants and animals in their habitat. Observe the behaviour of insects close up, watch them explore their new environment and use the fact-filled illustrated booklet to learn fascinating facts.
