About this deal

George is holding a coprolite from South Carolina, USA. It has perfect top and bottom bite marks from some type of prehistoric critter – probably a fish. We also hadn't realised that the book was one of a series until we'd finished it, and as a standalone it left a lot of unanswered questions related to the gran's obsession with green and the existence of the magic swing. No, coprolites do not smell. Even though a coprolite is the fossilized remains of an animal’s actual poop, it’s no longer poop. Since it’s gone through a fossilization process and all of the biological material has been replaced by minerals and turned into stone, there’s no longer a poopy odor to the animal dung. How Are Coprolites Formed? This fun series is the perfect introduction to the world of Danny and Dino. The poop-filled adventure is written by bestselling author duo Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter!

Because crocodiles haven’t changed much over millions of years, scientists can use the same method when fossilized poops are discovered.George Frandsen (USA) has the largest collection of coprolites in the world. Don’t worry, they don’t smell any more! 😝 When this poop was fresh in the water, it probably gave off a strong smell that made it seem like a yummy meal. 😍 Other dinosaur coprolites have been found with plants inside, and one even contains decomposing wood – a sign that the dinosaur was supplementing its nutrition with fungi and bugs that feed on rotting logs.

The way an object looks under a microscope can tell you whether or not it’s a coprolite. If your specimen appears to be granular, unfortunately, it is probably not a coprolite. How does poop become a fossil? When the conditions are just right, it happens just like any other fossilization process. The process is very similar to how petrified wood is made. That is why understanding where your specimen was discovered and what kind of geology resides there is so important! Composition This poop-filled extravaganza is brought to life by the preposterously talented illustrator Garry Parsons, and the brand new sea-shanty rhythm is perfect for reading out loud.Discover the pooptastic world of Dino and Danny, from bestselling authors Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter! Using the poop equation, we can work out the size of the croc who made Precious - it was 6.5m (21 ft) long! 😲 Join Danny and Dino as they search for Easter eggs in this EGGcellent lift-the-flap story! With rip-roaring rhyme and laugh-out-loud silliness, the Dinosaur that Pooped series has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world!

Because herbivore feces tends to break a part and decompose rapidly, it rarely survives the fossilization process. So most fossil poo that is found is from carnivores. I put all the ingredients into a saucepan and gently heated the concoction until it started to look like playdough. I removed it from the heat and let it cool down before lightly kneading it and adding some mixed spice. This gave it a slightly darker colour and also a lovely smell. The first coprolites were discovered by Mary A nning in the early 1800’s who theorized that the strange “poop shaped” fossils she found were actually the fossilized poop of dinosaurs…the ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurus. Coprolites are the fossilised faeces of animals that lived millions of years ago. Coprolites are trace fossils which means that they are not fossils of the animal’s actual body, but of something that came from the animals body.Burrowing causes the poop to break down and create nutrients for the soil. These nutrients help other plants grow faster. 🌱🌿
