Skin: Greater regeneration for small skin defects (e.g. small lacerated wounds or abrasions) with suitable pre-treatment Make sure you understand exactly what your workplace needs and that you have the necessary first aid kits and equipment to provide effective first aid wherever you are. Note: Leukotape® P is the product sold through GGG, whereas Leukotape® K is the product featured in the YouTube videos. The former works better for blisters, while the latter is stretchable and therefore is more ideally suited for joint support. Choose the right size plaster, making sure that the wound pad is slightly larger than the wound and that the shape is correct for the area of the body: Ensure there are no gaps or creases between the tape and your skin, and never fully encircle your foot as it may restrict blood flow.

Taping with Leukotape K can achieve pain reduction, regulation of tissue tone, improvement of innervation, improved lymph drainage, improved blood circulation, passive support (e.g. ligaments) and mechanical correction. Breathable - You shouldn’t leave it on forever, but unlike duct-tape the cotton-rayon material breathes pretty well. It can be left on for a lot longer without issues.

Tearable. The bandage is dirt and water repellent with a high tensile strength, yet easy to tear by hand either lengthwise or crosswise for convenience, with no need to have scissors on hand. Zinc oxide tape is a favourite among athletes and physiotherapists. The use of zinc oxide in the adhesive mix creates the tape’s reliably strong adhesive qualities, created by the use of zinc oxide. In addition to strong adhesion, zinc oxide has also been shown to have antibacterial properties, making it a doubly effective compound to be used in strapping tape. It wouldn't be an 'ultralight' item if it wasn't multi-use, right? Leukotape can be used in the field for more than just blister prevention if neccessary. Other uses include; If you don’t use it often, I think a strip or two (12-24 inches) should suffice. And it weighs nothing, so why not add a second strip? When you really need it, it’s nice to have enough of it.

Though sources differ on whether you should apply it directly to your skin, I’ve never witnessed a hiker in the wild do anything other than slice a piece off and slap it on. Be aware that Leukotape is made with a natural rubber latex that may cause a reaction for those with sensitive skin or who have an allergy. Leukotape acts as a barrier to nasty germs and bacteria. To prevent infection of a blister, a layer of Leukotape will keep out the mud or dirt that is sure to accumulate in your shoes when hiking or ultralight running.Protective. It protects the skin surface of the feet from the effects of constant rubbing, offers thermal insulation and reduces friction levels. Some leukotape brands contain natural rubber latex and may cause an allergic skin reaction if you have sensitive skin. Make sure you have stopped the bleeding before applying the plaster. You can do this by applying pressure to the area, using a clean, dry and absorbent material. Another big thing to make sure of is that you don't wrap the tape all the way around your foot. It doesn't stretch at all, so it can constrict blood flow and mess up your foot muscles. Joints: Ligament injuries, instability, hypermobility, arthritis, various painful conditions, swelling

Leukotape for Hiking and Blister Prevention 101 – Greenbelly

The idea with Leukotape is that when you get a hot spot (a localized area of noticeable friction happening on your foot) you put some Leukotape on it before it has the chance to become a blister. The tape provides a barrier between your skin and whatever is causing the friction, stopping the blister from forming. From a field-friendly strip of Leukotape, I cut a custom patch for a hot spot that a group member was getting on their heel. First, let’s clarify what a “hot spot” is, versus a “bubbly blister”. A hot spot is the beginning of an oncoming blister at the initial sign of friction. Think of it as Phase 1 in the blister formation process. A bubbly blister is Phase 2, once the hot spot has fully formed into a mature blister. Each phase requires different management. Neither duct tape nor moleskin will perform well on wet, sweaty surfaces. They are not particularly skin-friendly and you will have to replace it often. It’s hard to know what the trail will have in store for us on any given day, but it’s good to be prepared should accidents happen. If you develop a wound or skin irritation, Leukotape is a great bandage to last you until civilization, and will help prevent infection, too. Be sure to clean and dry the area before applying a strip of your new trail bff, Leukotape.
