About this deal

Multi User MIMO allows the VigorAP to send data out to more than one wireless client at a time, splitting bandwidth between the VigorAP's Spatial Streams instead of the access point's time as a whole. The DrayTek VigorACS management system can be used to configure and provision DrayTek VigorAP access points, similarly to performing these actions through the VigorAP's web interface, with a familiar menu layout in the Configuration section of VigorACS. Aims to maximise the total wireless throughput by improving how time is shared between wireless clients to prevent slower clients from negatively affecting other users and to enable faster clients to obtain higher speeds that they're capable of. Station Control - Time limit wireless connectivity per Station (e.g. 1 hour) & set allowed Reconnection time (e.g. 1 day) The VigorAP 903 features a web interface designed for use with tablets, phones and PCs, adapting to suit any device. Dashboard view gives a detailed overview of the VigorAP's status at a glance, see individual connected clients and their traffic usage, ports in use and the utilisation of the VigorAP. Easy Setup with the DrayTek Wireless app

The root is connected to the Internet router with a network cable. This controls the other VigorAPs in the Mesh Network and provides Internet connectivity. One limitation of wireless throughput is the wireless frequency space, which is shared between everyone. A wireless access point sending out data can only send to a single wireless client at a time. High performance 1266Mbps AC access point with Multi-User MIMO, which improves transfer speeds and efficiency.

Profiles for groups of access points can be provisioned in VigorACS by selecting a VigorACS network, then accessing Configuration > AP Profile to configure profiles and apply them selectively. In any problem state, it's usually best to use a wired (RJ45/Ethernet) connection rather than wireless. If you cannot access the web interface of your Vigor router, here are some possible causes:

The mesh nodes status and other information can be viewed via the DrayTek Wireless App or the Mesh Root's Web Interface. For home use there are cheaper mesh networking options, but for an expanding business, the VigorAP 1000C makes a lot of sense. It’s fast and relatively easy to deploy, and can operate on its own. Or alternatively, it can link in to become an integral part of the larger DrayTek Vigor family and help create a robust but manageable network. The ability to view connection strength and run speed tests directly from each access point makes it very easy to get the best coverage from your network. (Image credit: Future) Performance and testing DrayTek's VigorAP 903 may not be the fastest AP on the market, but it's affordable, extendable and extremely easy to deploy, putting mesh wireless well within reach of even the smallest businesses. VerdictThe VigorAP 903 features a new web interface designed for use with tablets, phones and PCs, adapting to suit any device. Standard (plaintext) HTTP is disabled, and encrypted TLS/SSL is in use. Use a https prefix to access the router WUI using SSL/TLS. It has a five port Gigabit switch built in, supports Power over Ethernet, and can be part of a mesh network, operate as an access point or range extender. The USB 2.0 port can be used to drive a printer, or add a USB temperature monitoring probe.

Mesh nodes are automatically configured in a VigorMesh network once they've been adopted by a mesh root. Simply take the VigorAP 903 out of the box, connect up the power and it will decide automatically whether to be a mesh node or access point. If it doesn't detect a wired uplink, the VigorAP 903 will start up as a mesh node and wait to be added to a VigorMesh network. In general, the access points worked fine, but in our repeated tests we did run into a few annoyances during setup. The solution was inevitably to factory reset the device in question, and add it to the mesh again. It’s also worth making sure all access points are running the latest firmware, and if in doubt, factory reset again, even from new. The Mesh Root VigorAP links up to your existing Internet router, such as the DrayTek Vigor 2862 and additional VigorAPs join up as Mesh Nodes, which connect wirelessly to the Mesh Root. Wave 2 - Multi User MIMOThe VigorAP 903 is an 802.11ac Wave 2 access point, which improves performance by increasing the amount of data that can be sent at one time. The 802.11ac Wave 2 standard includes Multi User MIMO (Multiple In, Multiple Out) or MU-MIMO technology, building upon the MIMO technologies introduced with 802.11n. The VigorConnect software was also fiddly, and not really worth the trouble. The easiest and most consistent method was to use the web interface for the 1000C to do the setup, as well as adding new nodes. Setting our Vigor2862ac router as the mesh root and using it to manage the nodes was also straightforward – though it doesn't provide the option to speed test between nodes, as found in the 1000C interface.

PoE is ideal for situations where you do not have mains power available in the exact location where you want to install the VigorAP 903 or just for general aesthetic neatness, perhaps where the AP is installed somewhere prominent. Performance is impressive and consistent, and the mesh functionality is relatively fast to reconfigure in the event of a lost node. The DrayTek Wireless app and VigorConnect software need improvement, but overall there is plenty of support available. The VigorAP 903 is another great wireless access point that can be part of a mesh network, with Ethernet router built in, and large external antennas. Station Infrastructure - Wirelessly extends network coverage with the VigorAP connecting to a wireless network and bridging wired network devices connected to the Access Point's LAN ports across the network
