Description

The unit is small and light enough to manhandle from room to room, too, and small casters attached to the base make it easy to manoeuvre on hard floors. If you have carpet, however, you’ll have to lift it. MeacoCool MC 7000: How well does it cool? Noise-wise, we found the Meaco Portable Air Conditioner slightly louder than the more powerful (and more expensive) AEG Comfort 6000 Portable Air Conditioner and Russell Hobbs RHPAC11001 Portable Air Conditioner, but only marginally so, and it could well be worth putting up with a little more volume in return for the cheaper investment. Overall its lightweight build and compact size make it a great option for smaller homes, and for anyone who lives alone and might struggle to move a larger unit by themselves. Not only does this MeacoCool 10000 CH provide you with the perfect cooling solution throughout summer, the reverse heat pump allows you to use it as a heater in the winter too, making it a investment you can use year-round.

The MeacoCool comes with two types of window kits: the standard and the flexible window kit. The standard kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit can be use with all window types. The 10000 CH has five modes: cool, fan, dry, heat and sleep. With an added a timer, you can get your room to the right temperature before you need to use it. The sleep mode is one of the reasons why customers love the MeacoCool range: it reduces both the fan speed and the noise level, making sure that you can sleep well even on the warmest nights. And the useful remote control allows you to adjust the unit whenever you need to. Alas, the weather hasn’t been particularly warm during the test period so I can’t give more accurate details than this yet, but it’s a good sign that the unit managed to keep rooms cool even without the installation of a window kit. Unlike most cooling units this model can be moved alone if you live by yourself, is easy to reposition thanks to its castor wheels, and is a great slimline option to stow away in the car and take to the caravan or a holiday let to keep cool in the summer heat. The remote control allows you to change the settings without having to get up to the unit, while a window kit makes the cooling more efficient. This is the ideal choice for large conservatory or orangery areas, for home gyms and for bedroom suites. It’s also perfect for office spaces that don’t have enough ventilation or suffer from the heat during the summer. The Dry setting uses the room’s ambient temperature to run the compressor and it behaves a bit like a dehumidifier, drawing moisture from the room. You can’t select a temperature in this mode because it’s all controlled by a processor. You will also need to fit the supplied drainage hose to the rear of the unit when in Dry mode so excess water can drain away. Also in the box is a short pipe for draining moisture from the water collection tank and a small remote control. The latter allows you to turn the unit on and off, adjust the fan speed and temperature, switch modes and set the on/off timer. These controls are mirrored on the panel at the front of the air conditioner, along with a simple LED screen that indicates the target temperature. Quite the contrast, we found this model significantly lighter than others and as such it was a very portable option.

As mentioned, this unit is also very lightweight compared to most portable air con units we've tested. The flipside of that is that the build quality does feels slightly flimsier than some alternative units I've tested. The Sleep Mode keeps the unit in low fan speed to ensure the lowest possible noise level, you can combine this with the Off Timer to ensure that you do not wake up cold during the night. The fact that one of the drainage hose outlets was positioned midway down the rear of the unit made it much easier to drain than alternative models I've tested in which the outlet is much lower down. I put the Dry Mode to use on a very muggy rainy day and noticed an almost immediate improvement in the moisture levels in the room. According to the manual, the air filters must be cleaned once every two weeks because otherwise dust will collect on them and restrict the airflow which could affect the efficiency of the unit.I used a sound-monitoring app on my phone to record how loud the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner was, and whilst I can't vouch for the reliability of the app, when positioned one metre away from the unit I measured 52dB noise levels whilst operating the unit in Cool Mode on the Low speed setting. This increased by approximately five decibels when the fan speed was increased to High speed which is in line with Meaco's own guidance of the unit producing 51-53dB levels. The biggest issue with portable air-con units is the installation process required for efficient cooling. As the law of conservation of energy states, energy (in this case heat) can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another. Hence, you will need to vent the heated air generated by the AC out of the home using the supplied concertina hose and pile of window fittings. But more on that below. MeacoCool MC Series 14000 review: Features A third reviewer commented on the ease of assembly and effectiveness of the cooling and value: ‘Easy instructions - window and door kit included - easy to put together - decently quiet to run on full blast (no louder than the large fan we have running). No complaints at all - even after 2 hours running you can feel the difference in the next rooms as well. Great unit for the price.’ That said, you don't have to have the unit running whilst you're in the room. At night time you can set the air conditioner to run before going to bed and then turn it off once the room is cooled. This is made easier thanks to the unit's built-in timer function. Portability The sleep mode is one of the reasons why customers love the MeacoCool range: it reduces both the fan speed and the noise level, making sure that you can sleep well even on the warmest nights. And the useful remote control allows you to adjust the unit whenever you need to.

If you can't do this, you'll have to use the supplied window ducts. You need to open a window, find the right fitting, and then attach the hose to it, dumping all that heat out where it's not bothering you any more. MeacoCool MC Series 14000 review: Verdict We’ve updated our air conditioning units, making them quieter, more energy efficient and easier to use. Now A-rated for energy efficiency, and with the R290 refrigerant, which is more environmentally friendly, the MeacoCool range is outstanding value for money as well as a great-looking, user-friendly unit. This unit is designed for spaces from 18-28m².

A cost-effective air conditioner that works brilliantly – but it’s a little on the noisy side

MeacoCool 10,000BTU portable air conditioner for use in the home or the office to provide personal cooling in rooms of around 28m². The reverse Heat Pump allows you to use this unit for heating as well making it useful all year round.

When in Cool Mode on High setting, and with the temperature set as 16, it brought the temperature down by approximately two degree Celsius in a super speedy ten minutes. (This was with the thermometer positioned at the side of the room close to the unit). A really immediate and noticeable impact. Our range has an Energy Rating of A, meaning you can run them without worrying about the effect on your bills, and we have also reduced the running noise, giving you a quieter air conditioning unit to see you through the warmer months. We’ve also designed the air conditioning unit to be as user-friendly as possible. A timer switch allows you to set the air conditioner to cool a room before you use it – perfect for bedrooms or when entertaining – and a sleep mode option reduces both the fan speed and the noise to help you maintain comfort even in the hottest weather. It also comes with a handy remote control, ensuring you’re always in charge. Introducing the brand new range of MeacoCool portable air conditioners perfect for home and office use providing personal comfort during the summer months. The good news on this front is that the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner has the lowest power consumption of any of the mobile air conditioners we've tested, running on just 780W.The neatest but most expensive option is to have a hole punched through the room’s wall and a good sealing cap fitted to close the gap when you’re not using any air-con. But there is another way, though unfortunately it only applies to houses fitted with a working fireplace chimney. You see, the humble chimney was designed to port hot smoke out of the house, and it works brilliantly with air conditioners, too. Air conditioner units work best when the hot air they are extracting is expelled outside the building. The MeacoCool comes with two types of window kits: the standard window kit and the flexible window kit. The standard window kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit is suitable for all types of windows. The use of a window kit prevents warm air from outside entering the room, making the cooling more efficient. In low fan speed the sound pressure level of 53dB(A) makes this a easier unit to live with. To get the best out of your air conditioner we recommend pre-cooling rooms, for example a bedroom, before you need to use them so that the room is nice and cool when you need to use it. This makes it easier to Not only does this MeacoCool 10000 CH provide you with the perfect cooling solution throughout the summer months; it can also be used when the weather turns colder. The reverse heat pump allows you to use the air conditioner as a heater, making it a useful investment all year round.
