We’re really pleased to have scored Coleman 28QT Xtreme Cooler so highly, givimg it 9.3 out of 10, making it well above the average for all family camping.

Built with premium insulation technology, the Coleman 28QT Xtreme Cooler can hold ice for several days to make it a perfect companion for overnight trips. With a 26 litre capacity, this cooler is smaller than the other options we’ve reviewed, and is more suited to short breaks for individuals or couples at the most. To give that price some context we then looked at all of the products available from Cotswold Outdoor in the family camping category. We found 25 items in total. What’s the price of family camping? That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from Coleman so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at Coleman branded products within the family camping category. The cost of Coleman family camping

When selecting the finest cool box for your next outdoor activity, there are a few factors to consider. This guarantees that you get the right cool box for your needs, regardless of size or cooling capability. We’ve created a detailed buying guide below, including all of the essential characteristics to look for.

There’s nothing quite like that first cup of tea or coffee in the morning on a camping trip. So make sure you don’t miss out by adding camping mugs and kettle to your outdoor gear. Decathlon’s selection of camping mugs is made from plastic or hardwearing steel, while our camping kettles can be conveniently boiled on your camping stove. We’ve even got whistling camping kettles that will tell you when it’s ready for you to make your brew. Yet, even with the large capacity on offer, the Pinnacle still maintains a relatively lightweight build, weighing 6.3kg unladen. Passive cool boxes are extremely well insulated containers which are specifically designed so that if you put pre-chilled items inside, the heat from the sun is unable to get in and warm them up. The best passive cool box will combine a decent load space with excellent insulation and a strong lifting handle at a price point which won’t break the bank. The Coleman Xtreme coolers are different from the other cooler boxes available as they are insulated with Polyurethane insulation (PU). PU is a very dense and an excellent insulator, filling the entire internal cavity of the cooler, leaving no air gaps and so improving its insulating efficiency. Another factor that can be a great indication of product quality is the brand. Brands like Coleman are of course extremely well known, especially for family camping. The material the product is made from is often a sign of the quality for family camping. Take a look at the product details over at Cotswold Outdoor to get a feel for this.

Size is a key feature to look out for since it determines how much your cool box can support. Passive or non-electric cool boxes have a size range of between 1 L to up to 100L. For example, a 28L cool box can carry up to 36 330ml cans. A 57L cool box, on the other hand, carries up to 75 cans. This weight is also significant since it affects how you handle the cool box. Regular carrying handles, for example, would be insufficient for a fully loaded 57L cool box. The big cool box’s wheels make transportation easier and more convenient. It also has well thought out features like 2 cup holders on the lid so you can use it as a side table when camping. Additionally, the lid is strong enough to be used as a seat for a person up to 113kg. So other than a 12v cool box which come with their own challenges like size and how to power, the only option for decent food when camping is a decent cool box. Apparently, the reason why the Coleman coolers are so good is because they inject the polyurethene foam into the cooler casing so there are literally no gaps. This method is not used by most other manufacturers who just use polystyrene, which isn't as efficient and leaves gaps which allow heat exchange. Coleman also did a lot of research into what shapes stay cooler for longer, and it's actually a circular sphere shape that stays cool the longest (least surface area). Obviously for practicality this doesn’t work for boxes whichis why they made the edges curved and elevated the bottom slightly off the floor – all small ways in which their coolers perform a lot better than others. The downside to buying online is that you can’t actually get hold of the product to try it out first. Over the weekend we tried to minimise the amount of time we had the cooler open to help it stay cool for longer. We were very impressed to still be able to have cold milk almost 48 hours after we left home.

We like the design and materials used by Vango. The green exterior really feels tough and impact-resistant, whilst the insulated interior can keep your goods chilled for up to 4 days (100 hours). The Coleman 28QT can hold up to 36 standard cans of beverages and a 2-litre bottle height. In addition, the lid features two inset cup holders which offers somewhere to place a bottle or can. Unfortunately they’re not large enough to take a mug of tea. We consider 45 litres to be about the perfect amount of capacity for a passive cooler on a family camping trip. Any more than that, and you’ve used up alot of space in your car or camper for not much benefit because the temperature cannot stay cool forever. Any lower capacity and you can’t fit enough food or drink in it! The best cool box should be made from high-quality, robust, and impact-resistant material. This allows it to survive harsh conditions and rough rides. Generally, you can find cool boxes made from plastic shells such as polyethene or those made from fabric with hard foam underneath. However, you will have to spend more on larger cool boxes. Furthermore, you should expect extra weight with a large-sized cool box – although weight is impacted by the material as well.By investing in the best cool box, you can enjoy the outdoors as if you were at home. After all, these passive coolers still operate the same as your fridge at home. So, you can stuff them with all your favourite foods and drinks to enjoy them outside. In fact, passive cool boxes are ideally designed to suit the cool UK weather. The strong lid design also allows the cool box to double as a sturdy seat, allowing it to support loads of up to 113 kilograms. Furthermore, the upright position of the cooler makes it easy to load and store anywhere, while the handle allows for reliable carrying.
