If a robot ends a phase on a wrench or numbered flag, the player moves the robot's archive marker to that flag. If the robot was seeking that flag, the player now attempts to reach the next numbered flag.

During the programming phase, you'll plan your robot's actions for the round. You'll do this by placing programming cards in each of the five registers on your player mat. Programming cards tell your robot to do things like move, turn, or collect energy.Providing a set space to create a racecourse within can help expedite initial decisions for the design area. In 2005, Avalon Hill re-published the game with minor rule revisions and cosmetic changes that included replacing the pewter robots tokens with plastic robots. Eleven years later, Avalon Hill re-released the game in 2016 with revised boards and substantial rules changes making the game incompatible with the previous editions. The player with priority (that is, the player who is closest to the priority antenna) carries out the action on the programming card they placed in their first register.

There are four types of damage cards, and some are scarier than others. Here's a more detailed description of each type. The approximate pacing of each section of the Stem Lab is as follows: Seek- 125 minutes, Play- 85 minutes, Apply- 15 minutes, Rethink- 45 minutes, Know- 5 minutes.
