Description

Hartley’s has launched a new mixed berry glitter jelly, combining fruit flavours with a shimmering edible glitter. Gelatine is a natural gelling agent found in many different foods, including marshmallows, margarine and gummy sweets. These strands become harder to pull apart as jelly cools, eventually setting into the wibbly, wobbly dessert we know and love.

Making the jelly was so easy. I just mixed the powder with hot water, poured into a mould and let it set in the fridge. It took about a minute! Calling all princesses – glittery jellies have arrived! This glittery wobbly treat will add anextra sparkle to midweek desserts. With its eye-catching edible glitter, this glamorous jelly is sure to please the kids (and the grown-ups too!). It will be the star performer at any birthday party.

Most homemade jellies, made from scratch or using a store-bought product, will set completely at around 4°C, as this is gelatine’s preferred setting temperature. In a measuring jug, dissolve your jelly in just enough boiling hot water to fully dissolve the jelly. Don’t worry if there are some stubborn lumps remaining; these are perfectly safe and won’t affect how long it takes your jelly to set. Jelly pots are sure to make a fun addition to your little one’s lunch. If jelly isn’t for you, you can’t go wrong with some ice cream. For those on the hunt for a decadent dessert to finish off your meals with, we’ve got a great selection of cake slices. And have a look at our frozen cheesecakes for a rich and creamy delight. Don’t forget to grab some doughnuts and pies while you set the table for your breakfasts and brunches.

Hartley’s® have launched two new product ranges within its jelly offering, encouraging families to get creative in the kitchen. The exciting new products include sparkling glitter jelly and make-your-own flavour jelly. Hartley’s® ‘What’s Your Flavour Jelly?' Recently, I tried jelly for the first time in ages and it was as delicious as I remember. There’s something quite satisfying about that wobbly sweetness! There’s a new range of jelly from Hartley’s available now and it’s extra special — it’s a range of glitter jelly! Mix it up with Hartley’s® ‘What’s Your Flavour Jelly?’. Kids can create a unique flavour of jelly by adding their favourite juice or squash – let them use their imagination! Simply add your drink of choice to the jelly, stir and leave to set. Even better, this jelly contains no artificial colours or flavours. It’s the perfect addition to any celebration, especially children’s parties. The child can choose their favourite colour and you can plan a sparkly party around that theme. By using different moulds, you can create any shapes you like and even build landscapes. At temperatures closer to freezing (0°C), any gelatine in your jelly will permanently de-activate. This means your jelly will freeze solid, but will not regain its gel-like texture. Put simply, cooling jelly below about 2°C will ruin it.

Hartley's Jelly Cubes

The new jelly would bring dessert time to life and offer a centrepiece for children’s parties, the brand said. Its launch follows the success of Hartley’s glitter jelly range last year, which has brought incremental sales to the brand and helped to drive growth in Hartley’s Crystal Jelly of 7%. Large chunks of ice in your mixture can create clumps, as the jelly around each ice cube sets much faster than the liquid surrounding it. Homemade jelly should take around 4 hours to set in the fridge. However, it is possible to get jelly to set in as little as 15 minutes if you use a freezer.

Pectin, available in liquid and powdered forms, is a cheap, easy-to-find gelling agent made from fruit. It helps jellies and jams to set firm. Top up the jug with very, very cold water, with the suggested amount of water. This step is crucial as it rapidly cools our jelly mixture down. You can use ice cubes in this step instead of cold water (scroll up to read our tips). Not all make-at-home jellies take the same time to set. Take a look at the brands below. Each one has a slightly different guideline setting time. There are three different flavours and colours: Blue Mixed Berry, Pink Raspberry and Red Strawberry. We’ve tried the Blue Mixed Berry one.
