We’re yet to get our hands on the Osprey Fairview 55, however, we have had 5 months of testing in South East Asia with the Farpoint 70 with the pair sharing plenty of similarities. Security-wise, the daypack comes with a kangaroo style attachment, with clips for attaching it to the front of the main bag’s harness. If we separate and set the daypack to one side for just a second and focus on the main pack, it’s evident that this isn’t your typical backpack. The daypack can also clip onto the harness of the main pack, in a 'kangaroo' style attachment, for a very secure way to carry your daypack when you want to keep your valuables or tickets to hand.

I can live without pockets, less space or anything, but when I carried the bag a lot, it started to hurt after a few months. Some travelers put their towels or dirty laundry in it, I didnt find this pocket useful and it stayed empty most of the time. I think FP40 + Daylite Plus is a pretty strong option because the FP40 is more complete as a standalone pack. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The other side of the hip belt also has a fabric loop so you could attach a torch with carabiner or similar.

I’m not a fan of having my laptop in the main bag so it was a good compromise since the 55s main bag doesn’t have the laptop compartment. In the larger compartment, there is one mesh zipper pocket that spans the entirety of the opening flap. If I choose to go carry-on only, then I could think of a 40 or 45-litre backpack that is officially a carry-on size.

A scratch-free stash pocket is perfect for sunglasses and devices, while the dedicated laptop sleeve keeps your computer safe during travel. Bringing the Farpoint Day back into the picture and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a simple 13L daypack. It’s small enough that it does not look ridiculous when you hang it at the front, but it comfortably fits a 15-inch laptop, some electronics, a camera, a raincoat, and snacks. The internal pockets are great to separate and organise tickets, passport, documents and other items (and by other items I mean snacks) and there is plenty of space to pack some emergency clothes in case your main bag gets lost.
