Description

Lumber blocking, panel edge clips (one midway between each support, except two equally spaced between supports when span is 48 inches), tongue-and-groove panel edges, or other approved type of edge support. Therefore, the ends 13 of the arms 12 exhibit some resistance to a complete parallel relationship between the arms 12. So what I’m saying is waviness is often caused by the panels getting wet after construction and the end spacing not being adequate. Further, when the H clip is inserted between the materials, the contoured face of the lead-in helps to keep the H clip lying flat on the materials.

the living hinge 18 is thinner, giving the hinge 18 some rotating flexibility and illustrated by reference number 17 in FIG.

Although I wouldn’t say support would be the right word…if you step on the joint it will still bow down. Use your toes to jockey the edge of the sheet into the clips and when all the clips are engaged, drop the sheet.

Without this full gap, sheathing can expand under moist conditions and you can end up with the sheathing warping. This stiffening is particularly helpful for very thin panels (such as 3/8” inch) that are especially prone to bowing under heavy weight near their edges.I've never nailed them, just placed them over the lower sheet and slipped the upper sheet into them. Even if they are not required, we highly recommend H-Clips to improve the longevity and durability of your roof sheathing. For 7/16-inch Zip System panels, Huber Engineered Woods requires panel edge support (blocking) or approved edge clips if the on-center spacing of the framing members exceeds 16 inches.

The ones I do see are ones built back in the late 80s and 90s… When OSB was newer and the instructions relatively fresh in the minds of contractors and code officials…We are also about 90% concrete tile roofs so not as easy to see the buckling you come to expect from composition shingles. This will decrease the chances of the sheet you're standing on bowing down, which will make clip insertion on the sheet above difficult.Maybe it will help clarify why the edges are to be nailed if we think about what happens when the winds cause a force to be applied down the plane of the wall.
