This book is for everyone, not just for the “moms” out there - great insight for husbands, boyfriends, brothers, sons etc ( hope that covers it all without offending) Lucys humour and take on it all is just brilliant, as with everting she is on! After she and my youngest got their first taste of drinking custard, I realized I would probably never make a half batch. She talks candidly here about the ups and downs of being a new mum, not least the pressures we often pile upon ourselves. There are amazing things about being a parent, but there are an equal number of shitty things and, despite things like Why Mummy Drinks, the shitty bits are still not talked about enough. The book is chronological, covering pregnancy, birth, babyhood/that horrific sleep deprived bit, the toddler years and then coming up to school age.

Lucy Beaumont is a stand up comedian and tv personality with one of the most identifiable voices there is! She admits that she knows she’s being silly and wants her baby to be grounded, to enjoy avocados but also go to greasy spoon cafes. You need to read “Being Dead Is No Excuse” which is about food traditions surrounding funerals in the South. I can’t speak to its relatability as someone not in the target demographic, but whilst it wasn’t an essential read, this was still very funny. I had wondered how often he would chime in and was worried it might be a bit too often but actually there are only the occasional few lines which added to the humour nicely! Her mother used to turn up at her school and pretend to be the queen and once hid in a bush to check she was ok. By the end I found her patronising, smug, and the snob she admitted she was, who enjoyed rubbing our faces in what the book royalties paid for. Throughout the book we hear lots of funny stories from Lucy’s life and the extra challenges faced with motherhood!

the frosting is made of whipped egg whites, with a hot simple sugar syrup poured in while the mixer is running on HIGH!Now my aunt and family count on me making it including using Splenda for the diabetics in our family. It was heartening to read some of my own thoughts – particularly about ridiculous situations you end up in as a parent – mirrored back at me. From TV's award-winning comedy mum, Lucy Beaumont, comes her hilarious debut on the trials and tribulations of motherhood. I can be quite sceptical about celeb books but Lucy comes across as so down to earth and relatable that I felt like I was sitting with a friend as I read.
