The book was a very detailed and accurate first-person account of the Second World War, all the way down to the clothes the characters wore. It sounded like a 100% match to what life was like for evacuees in the country. This is not the first book I have read by Jaqueline Wilson and it shall not be my last. This book has lived up to the standards and quality as all Jacqueline Wilson books and I recommend it to all 8-12 year olds. This was the first Wilson novel I'd read, so I was unsure what to expect. I loved Archie because of his funny personality and joyful attitude. I thought the history in the book was definitely very realistic and it has inspired me to research more about World War 1 and the evacuees. Mrs Waverly also lets Shirley in on her secret room and confides in her about why she keeps what she does in there, it is very moving only a situation involving Kevin and him then running away leads him and Shirley into a dangerous encounter.

Wave Me Goodbye used real events from World War Two some consisted of having a gas mask at all times and needing a name tag to state who you are, where you are going and where you come from an example is: Wilson has an incredible ability to inhabit her child characters so precisely and Wave Me Goodbye will be like Nina Bawden's Carrie's War for a new generation of children learning about our country's past Belfast Telegraph Shirley later sends a postcard to her Mum which describes how it was on her first day and how horrible she found it, however it causes her Mum so much concern she travels to meet the women taking care of her daughter and is so horrified she wants to take Shirley to stay with her boss's relatives. I have already bought/read over 6 books of this author and more being released every year. I would like to know how many evacuees ran away from their selected homes and how many didn't go home. I really enjoyed reading Wave Me Goodbye. I particularly liked Archie because of the way he talks and also because he doesn't know his animals and they do, which I found funny!September, 1939: At the breakout of the Second World War , ten-year-old Shirley is sent away on a train. When she gets off the train no one wants to take her so a lady is forced to take her and two boys . Simply the best. Truly brilliant Sun Jacqueline Wilson has written another amazing book. If you love Tracy Beaker then you'll certainly enjoy this too CBBC News Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award. I loved this story because I have learnt much about World War 2, so it was really interesting hearing a story of some kids that were actually there. This book inspired me to learn some more about the war and other people’s experiences. I also really like Jacqueline's books because of how they mostly focus on one person and how they are feeling about the world around them.It was a big surprise when the army van came up and gave them their camp beds. When Archie went in the lake I was really surprised because he wanted to swim but he sank and Kevin and Shirley had to fish him out.

I really enjoyed this book and I think Jacquline Wilson is a really good writer. I think she should write more stories of these children in World War 2 as they are really good stories. I was glad Kevin owned up to the bed wetting incident. I don't normally read Jacqueline Wilsons but this has made me more interested. I rarely read historical books but I really enjoyed this. Kevin and Archie were probably Shirley's least expected partners for billeting. When they got her the tunic I thought of what she would look like and she looked horrendous in the clod hoppers and shirt. Join Kevin, Shirley and Archie on an adventure in the country side. They are all very adventurous children but some things go wrong after they arrive. This was supposed to be a holiday for Shirley (as her Mum called it that,) but instead it turned out to be a mixture of clumsiness, embarrassment and danger. Throughout the book, as expected from a novel set in wartime England, there's old time language and what would be considered minor swearing but time appropriate. There's mentions of objects from wartime England and the caricatures depicted the time and theme of the book tremendously. Shirley was a great character and she really earnt a place in my heart over how kind she was and cheeky when necessary!I didn't always like Jessica, I found her a little bit nasty at times, quite self centred and only after her own interests but by the end of the book I was happy to hear she was restored to her nice old self again, like the girl we had met on the train. I don’t want to give away the plot, so will confine myself to saying that despite an ill-advised escape (complete with gun!) all turns out well. She soon finds herself lodged deep in the countryside, with two boys from the East End of London, Kevin. But here, living in the strange, half-empty Red House with the mysterious and reclusive Mrs Waverley, the children's lives will be changed for ever. I really enjoyed this book by Jacqueline Wilson. It was intruiging and I couldn't put it down. My favourite character in the whole book was Shirley with her love for books and her eager-to-impress attitude. My favourite places in the book were probably the grounds of the house. They sounded really beautiful and mysterious.
