And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why? ( From the publisher.) We can use this technique effectively instead of quarreling or telling hurtful words to others. We should be careful to use this technique only to those misbehaving with us and not to intimidate others. There are different eyebrow-raising methods, which convey totally different meanings like eyebrow flashing, quirking, arching, furrowing, etc. Best man Johnno, seems confused what he’s doing about his life, sharing a really big secret with Will from their high school times, giving him nightmares and making him fell like chasing by the past time ghosts. And he learns something crucial to change his life forever and gives him a motive to do something dangerous… This is fast-paced and easy to read. I figured out the murderer early on, but I didn’t know who had been murdered or why. There are a lot of red herrings thrown in to make one question their arm-chair detective skills. Some elements of the plot came together with a little too easily--it just so happened that one person in attendance had a link to another in a way that was just way too convenient. However, this connection did add another potential candidate as the murderer.

Talk about the twists & turns—those surprising plot developments that throw everything you think you've figured out into disarray. But that’s not the only person Will harmed. He did an act of revenge porn on Hannah’s sister and she eventually killed herself. Let’s talk about this reveal. The varying perspectives kept the chapters short and therefore the story never had a chance to fall into a lull. Each chapter ended on a sort of mini-cliffhanger that kept me wanting more. He’s a longtime friend (and former crush) of the bride. Something dark happened to him at the stag party. He seems to have a history of drinking too much. At the sixty percent mark, I was officially out of patience. (In my mind, I had started writing an absolutely scathing review.) I was also reading an e-book, so I was acutely aware of my progress. But then, finally, thankfully, stuff started to happen.Finney, Joanne (7 May 2021). "The best thrillers and crime novels to read". Good Housekeeping . Retrieved 27 December 2021. Talk about the characters, both good and bad. Describe their personalities and motivations. Are they fully developed and emotionally complex? Or are they flat, one-dimensional heroes and villains? There’s a storm happening on the island and there are high winds and crashing waves and the power goes in and out, and it just makes for the perfect spooky setting. This book honestly kind of reminds me of the movie Knives Out because of how clever and smart and atmospheric it is. What did you think of The Guest List? Here are some of the things we discuss in comments- join the discussion! The Will/Jules/Olivia Love Triangle Did you think it was interesting that Will was so involved with all those horrible actions that impacted so many of the characters? Or did you think it was a little much?

Let’s first start with Jules. Why was she so eager to marry Will despite not knowing him for very long? Why did you think she chose to ignore the letter that said not to marry him?Part psychological suspense part classic crime written in Agatha Christie style, The Hunting Party, is a great read appealing on many levels. I was really pleasantly surprised by The Guest List. Loads of people I know have read and enjoyed it, but I was putting it off because of the five different perspectives. This almost never works for me. I just don't end up caring enough about the characters to be concerned about their fate.

She has only known her fiancee Will for a few months. Just before the wedding, she got an anonymous note that said her husband “isn’t who she thinks” and she shouldn’t marry him. Yikes! Charlie Jules is frustrated about Olivia's unenthusiastic attitude about the wedding. Olivia confides in Hannah that she's sad about a recent breakup with her ex-boyfriend Callum. Afterwards, she started dating an older guy (" Steven") she met off an app. She took him to one of her sister's fancy parties to impress him, but instead got drunk and made a fool out of herself, so he ghosted her. There's more, but Olivia doesn't continue. The Guest List is a fun, fast-paced, guessing game of a read; perfect for fans of Dame Agatha Christie, or Ruth Ware.Cocoran, Lucy (21 September 2021). "The Are The Best Bingeable Books You Can't Put Down". Marie Claire . Retrieved 27 December 2021. The stunning bride. She’s the manager of a successful design and lifestyle empire. She has a half-sister, Olivia. Her parents divorced and her father remarried. In the snippets of the present, guests venture out of the marquee to determine who it is lying dead, while the other chapters detail the events of the day before, building up to the final reveal. I think it is quite clever that the mystery is not only about who the culprit is, but also who the victim is. You can easily believe it could be any one of them, victim or culprit. A fellow classmate named Darcey at the boarding school died after Will and Johnno tied him up and left him behind with no way to escape. Johnno is traumatized and feels guilty while Will takes no responsibility and tries to say it was an accident. Let’s talk about our thoughts as we read this. What does this say about Will how he always thought he was going to get away with everything? Everyone had something to hide. Everyone had an axe to grind and I was there for every cat-clawing minute of it.

Barbeito, Camila (27 October 2020). "The Guest List by Lucy Foley". POPSUGAR Entertainment . Retrieved 27 December 2021. I didn’t enjoy The Guest List as much as The Hunting Party, which I’ll get into more. Don’t get me wrong—I read the story in one sitting so I was very engaged. But I had a couple issues with it. First the synopsis The book starts off by assembling a colorful cast of characters in a unique and atmospheric venue. A wedding is such a great setting for a murder mystery, with all the fancy clothes, plenty of booze and so many people being forced to mingle. It equates to pretty much the perfect setup for a little mayhem. For all I know this is a dream wedding (location wise) up until someone gets themself stupidly murdered. Slow burning story telling: I’m impatient person, I like to go straight and cut to the chase. So I don’t like stalling around facts, I just like to dive in! The Guest List a whodunnit about a glamorous wedding. The guests are out for revenge, leading them to “raise hell.” The killer was Aiofe, the wedding planner. She was the sister of Darcey “Loner” Malone, the boy Will and Johnno pranked.
