The visitor center of Cardhu is opened all year, at high season from July to September even on Sundays. In October there uses to be maintenance. The visitor center is opened during that time but tours might not be offered during that time. Following the massive demand for Cardhu Scotch whisky and the resultant difficulties in meeting said demand, Diageo vatted the Cardhu malt with that from other distilleries, naming the whisky Cardhu Pure Malt. This generated heated debate as to the definitions surrounding the terms ‘single malt’ and ‘vatted/blended’ and as to what was to be considered a ‘pure malt’. Today, there is but one independent bottling, from Signatory, though there is a good range of single malt, as well as the Cardhu Pure Malt, which, it has been alleged, includes some whisky from Glendullan.

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). They bought new stills and in the beginning were helped selling and distributing their Whisky by their friend George Smith, later founder of Glenlivet.I've finally found the time to sit down with a dram, and give it the attention it deserves, so here goes: For as nice of a nose this whisky has, the flavors just don't show up at all on the palate. I think I might just sit here and nose it for the rest of my time. I would enjoy it more than drinking it. Hmmm... I've still got a full dram's worth of liquid in the bottle (which may be the nicest part of this whisky, as the bottle is really sharp!) a b "Cardhu Distillery - The Distilleries of Scotland - scotchwhisky.net". www.scotchwhisky.net . It is not surprising, perhaps, that Cardhu is also accepted to have been the first of the Speyside distilleries to take out one of the new licences after the Excise Act was passed in 1823. Cardhu, Diageo’s best selling single malt Scotch whisky, was originally founded in 1811 by a notorious whisky smuggler called John Cumming. The Cardhu distillery sits high on the Northern banks of the river Spey in Moraytown, overlooking the imposing mountain range, Ben Rinnes. John licensed the distillery a year after the Excise Act of 1823, thereby ending his illicit operation. Helen Cumming’s daughter-in-law Elizabeth took charge of operations in 1872, completely rebuilding the primitive set-up in 1884,and selling the old stills and waterwheel to William Grant, who was planning to build his family distillery, called Glenfiddich, in Dufftown. By then, Cardhu had established itself as a favourite of blenders, but was also available as a single malt in London as early as 1888. In 1893, the distillery was sold to long-term customer John Walker & Sons on the understanding that the family would still run the distillery and have a seat on the Walker board. The distillery was expanded from two stills to four in 1899 and then up to six in 1960. The fall-out from the incident resulted in a complete overhaul of Scotch whisky labelling regulations and the creation of a new term: ‘blended malt’.Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. The Cardhu 15 as a further development of the 12 year old and keeps up the smooth and silky style of the Speysider. The aromas are more delicate, complex and rich. The history of Cardhu - which was written Cardow in the beginning- is closely connected to the history of two women: Helen and Elisabeth Cummings. Helen and her husband John Cumming run a farm at Cardow in the late 18 th /early 19 th century. It is known that in 1816 John was convicted for distilling without official license three times. Distilling to small extends was usual for the farmers at that time and nearly no one cared for licenses. The just couldn’t afford it. At Cardow it wasn`t John but his wife Helen that distilled and she was known to have an eye on approaching excise officers and warn farmers in the neighborhood by setting up a red flag. Helen didn’t just only distill for their own needs, she also sold her Whisky from her kitchen’s window it is said. With the Cardhi 18 the fruitiness is richer and the long term of maturation makes this Cardhu a very sumptuous one, that doesn’t lose its sweet and fruity basic structure. From 1982 to 2004 a “Cardhu Pure Highland Malt Scotch Whisky” was available and caused some confusion and a debate in the whisky industry: Diageo vatted Single Malts of several Speyside distilleries and bottled the malt with an equal bottle shape as the Cardhu Single Malt. This was a trigger for the Scotch Whisky Association SWA to work over the regulations and define the terms that describe categories like single malts or blended malts. Like Blessed Fruit the movie, Cardhu gives you a good mix of sweet and sour. Emphasis on the sweet side, kinda like the main character Molly in Blessed Fruits fantasy skits, where she's imagining what life could be. Cardhu 12 Year Old Single Malt is a Speyside whiskey, located near Archiestown and drawing its water from springs on Mannoch Hill and Lynee Burn (creek). It comes in an attractive, eye-catching bottle with a fat wood and cork stopper, and is bottled at 40% abv.
